17th December 2020, LONDON, UK Subex, a pioneer in the space of Digital Trust, announced a partnership with Telefónica, one of the largest mobile network providers in the world, to provide the latest version of ROC Fraud Management. As part of the engagement, the operator will be deploying Subex’s ROC Fraud Management, to all opcos in Telefónica’s Hispam unit: Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, and Colombia.

Telefónica is widely recognized as one of the most innovative companies on the digital front, by consistently providing its customers with trusted and secure new-age offerings. As a torchbearer of combatting fraud, Telefónica was keen to find the right partner that would enable them to transcend from fraud detection and management to a proactive fraud prevention approach

Through ROC Fraud Management, Telefónica can leverage the solution’s Big Data Hadoop architecture to reduce fraud detection time, improve scalability, and ease integration with Telefónica’s local data lakes. The solution will also enable Telefónica to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), owing to its Open Source capabilities, and its low hardware footprint. Finally and more importantly, Telefónica can leverage the AI/ML and Signaling Intelligence capabilities of ROC Fraud Management to detect and prevent traditional and new-age frauds across voice, data, and digital services.

According to GSMA, the Latin America market is growing at a promising rate, with a total mobile subscriber base of 440 million and an estimated penetration rate of 73% by 2025. This growth has also led to an increase in the overall digital engagements for the region. However, what this trend has also resulted in is an increased number of targets for cybercriminals to mark through means such as identity theft, social engineering and extortion.

Commenting on the partnership Shankar Roddam, Whole-Time Director & Chief Operating Officer, Subex said, “This win marks another chapter in our long-standing relationship with the Telefónica group.  It is extremely positive to see Telefónica, one of the largest operators in the world, taking such proactive measures to combat telecom fraud. It gives Subex immense pride to be working with them to protect their customers, in addition to our existing partnership with Telefónica’s cybersecurity venture. Subex was selected post a very competitive and diligent evaluation process, which pitted us against all other fraud management vendors in the market”

Miguel Sancho Cáceres, Deputy Global Director of Security said, “Improving our effectiveness in the fight against the fraud is one of the key priorities for us at Telefónica. Towards this goal, we consider it imperative to ensure that our services are equipped with state-of-the-art fraud prevention capabilities. To make this reality, we are pleased to partner with Subex and deploy the latest version of their ROC Fraud Management solution. This will ensure much faster processing and detection times, providing far more flexibility, easier access, and agility to our business operations.”

10th December 2020, Bangalore, India – Subex, a pioneer in Digital Trust, announced that it has been selected by stc to deploy an integrated Revenue Assurance and Fraud Management (iRAFM) solution. This deal marks another chapter in the long-standing partnership between Subex and stc, through the earlier deployments of ROC Revenue Assurance and an award-winningFraud Management engagement, which began in 2003. By virtue of this decision, stc will be aiming to consolidate their technology stack with the latest solution from Subex, including replacement of other legacy systems.

stc is a Saudi Arabia-based Digital Company that offers telecommunications services, landline, mobile, Internet services, digital enterprise solutions, entertainment, fintech, and computer networks. As a digital enabler and leader in the region and stc continuously focuses on innovation and evolution. stc was looking to consolidate their current Revenue Assurance and Fraud Management technologies to leverage the enhanced feature set that an integrated RAFM solution brings. This will enable stc to have more extensive coverage towards mitigating risks in the digital environment. Leveraging Subex’s iRAFM built upon a Hadoop stack, the upgrade will provide stc with the required scalability and flexibility to handle massive volumes of data while lowering the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). This will also enable them to achieve higher operational efficiency due to the reduced duplication of data, effort, and maintenance. Further, the unified platform will facilitate seamless communication between the multiple associated solutions stc has in place, hence leading to a greater degree of Digital Trust.

Simultaneously, Subex’s iRAFM will enable stc to align their business and IT endeavors while making them future proof. The implementation will bring in key features that will address multiple use cases through the use of AI and signaling data processing that will enable proactive detection & prevention. The implementation will also bring in the ability to manage complex rating & billing validations, enhance fraud detection through Link Analysis, and provide out-of-the-box dashboarding, among other functionalities.

Commenting on the partnership extension Shankar Roddam, Whole-Time Director & Chief Operating Officer, Subex said, “The Middle East is a region which is characterized by having the highest rate of mobile telephony penetration in the world. This, along with the forthcoming 5G revolution, has placed significant importance for operators to innovate and provide customers and enterprises with trusted and new services. Towards this, stc is consistently seen as an innovator within this highly competitive market and has been a pioneer in leveraging technology to drive business value. Through stc’s market leadership position, the operator has been on the forefront towards adopting a proactive approach to mitigate the risks associated with digitalization and the road towards a 5G future. We are excited to be their preferred Digital Trust partner in this journey.”

According to a spokesperson from stc“stc has been partners with Subex across the last 17+ years, through their deployment of ROC Revenue Assurance and ROC Fraud Management. With stc accelerating its journey towards 5G, we are looking to build a powerful and secure ecosystem built on Digital Trust. To fast-track this vision, it is imperative to build alliances with partners who have the expertise to help us navigate around new-age risks. Owing to our existing relationship with Subex and the successes we have witnessed through the deployment of their ROC Revenue Assurance and ROC Fraud Management solutions, we are delighted to expand this partnership. Subex’s iRAFM solution will provide us robust foundation of risk mitigation as part of our journey towards innovation and evolution in the digital world.”

The telecom industry is experiencing a shift in consumer behavior with the higher adoption of digital services. This is undoubtedly opening telcos to new partnerships that are strong in the ecosystem and bolster their revenue. From Geo-politics, revised monetization strategies, IP theft to shifting targets, Subex’s latest threat report unravels the evolving cyber threat landscape

10TH SEPTEMBER, BENGALURU, INDIA – Subex, a pioneer in the space of Digital Trust, and the leading provider of Internet of Things (IoT) and Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity solutions, today released the findings of its latest threat landscape report for the second quarter of 2020. The findings presented by Subex highlight the dynamic nature of the threat landscape with the addition of new actors, malware, tactics, and avenues for the sale of stolen data.

The report describes the second phase of Covid-19 themed attacks that dominated the cyberworld in the first quarter of the year. While the second phase has seen more breaches, morphed variants, and new threat actors, many established hacker groups and Advanced Persistent Threat teams had moved on to other targets. The report also presents chatter intercepted from various sources by Subex’s threat researchers that gives a rare peek into hacker interactions, collaborative strategies, and targets.

The most significant findings include:

  • State-backed hacker groups have started monetizing cyberattacks as funding from state coffers has started thinning
  • In the absence of funding, more hackers are now seeking ransom than ever before
  • Covid-19 themed attacks continue used mostly by new and amateur hacker groups as a means of making quick money
  • Where is the data? Plenty of Intellectual Property data and confidential information stolen by hackers throughout the year has still not appeared on the Dark web and other places.
  • Intercepted chatter indicates the prevalence of cyberattack playbooks, which are constantly updated
  • New investments observed in establishing botnets in countries with reasonable internet speeds but with lax cybersecurity monitoring and legal enforcement norms
  • The Covid-19 induced recession has not slowed down cyberattacks. If anything, it has emboldened the hackers
  • Manufacturing and utilities continue to draw a huge volume of attacks
  • 2020 has been the most profitable year for hackers so far

Attacks motivated by geopolitical goals have reduced a bit globally as most of the groups involved have started using their capabilities to collect Bitcoins in ransom. Such groups’ ability to stay afloat and operate freely continues to be a matter of concern as they possess the most sophisticated tools and talent in addition to geopolitical grievances. These groups will bounce back when state funding becomes available while making these sophisticated tools and malware available to others.

Vinod Kumar, Managing Director & CEO, Subex, said, “These findings indicate that the cyber pandemic that was unleashed in the wake of Covid-19 continues to shape the overall threat sentiment in cyberspace. We continue to monitor and alert customers, agencies, authorities, partners, and other stakeholders on the impact of these forces on their cybersecurity posture.”

5TH AUGUST 2020, BENGALURU, INDIA – Subex, a pioneer in the space of Digital Trust, has been named a sample provider for Augmented Analytics in Gartner’s report on ‘Emerging Technologies and Trends Impact Radar: Artificial Intelligence in Telecom’. The Emerging Technology Impact Radar is an analysis of the maturity, market momentum, and influence of emerging technologies, such as Augmented Analytics, and trends in the telecom industry.

In the Emerging Technologies and Trends Impact Radar: Artificial Intelligence in Telecom, According to the report, “Startups and large vendors offering augmented analytics capabilities are disrupting data and analytics markets.“ Subex is listed as a sample provider in this section.

Gartner also estimates that “augmented analytics has grown to 60% to 90% of the way toward the early majority target – in terms of the emergence of new revenue-producing market entrants and increasing adoption by users.”

According to Gartner,” In the telecom industry, CSPs continuously invest in technologies and tools – that can deal with a huge range of variables and the complex relationships that exist between these variables  – to maximize the value of their data. Augmented analytics is rapidly gaining traction to provide a solution to address the above challenges. Augmented analytics uses machine learning to automate data preparation, insight discovery, data science, machine learning model development and insight sharing for a broad range of business users, operational workers, and data scientists. Augmented analytics is expanding insights by using AI to deliver analytics in the organization with less time, skills and interpretation bias of current manual approaches.”

“We are happy to be recognized as a sample provider for Augmented Analytics in Gartner Research, Emerging Technologies and Trends Impact Radar: Artificial Intelligence in Telecom. Businesses today are acutely aware of the importance of leveraging a combination of data and AI to win in an extremely competitive market. However, they struggle with a scattered data infrastructure and a manual and error-prone AI application in their data-to-insights journey. We believe Augmented Analytics is the right approach to succeed in this disruptive era by combining multiple disparate analytical functions, such as data preparation, insight generation and insight explanation, now all under a single hood. This will empower businesses to excel in the new digital world by aiding them in their transformation journey and enabling them to deliver winning customer experience,” said Rohit Maheshwari, Head of Strategy and Products at Subex.
