BANGALORE, INDIASubex Ltd, a leading global provider of Business Support Systems (B/OSS) for communications service providers, announced today that it has been awarded a five-year deal to deploy its industry leading Revenue Operations Centre (ROC) Fraud Management and Revenue Assurance solutions across 14 networks of the MTN Group. One of the biggest telecom service provider globally, MTN is the largest operator in Africa and the Middle East, with over 170 million subscribers.

MTN was looking for a single partner to meet its revenue protection requirements. Subex has proven success in the region, as well as technical superiority. The company’s ability to also cater to both large and small operators, in terms of price, and its highly scalable solution platform, made it a natural choice for the multi-country deployment in this high growth region.

As part of a turn-key model, along with hardware vendors, Subex will provide ROC Fraud Management and Revenue Assurance solutions to support MTN’s networks. The solutions will be deployed individually in each of the  operating countries, with a central program office from Subex, which will work with the MTN Group and the individual countries to roll out the systems in phases across the 14 networks.

Commenting on the development, Nazir Patel, Group CFO, MTN Group said, “We were looking for a partner to collaborate with us long term, to address our revenue fortification requirements. Subex was selected for this deployment after a highly competitive bidding process”.

ROC Revenue Assurance from Subex provides continuous monitoring and revenue protection, and is designed to detect not only potential revenue loss, but also to assist operators with the investigation, diagnosis, and recovery of these revenues and with their on-going protection. It is highly effective in both the traditional circuit-switched and next-generation, packet-switched service environments; scalable enough to serve operators large and small; and flexible enough to support Revenue Assurance practices as they expand and mature.

The ROC Fraud Management solution version 7.4 is the latest version of Subex’s industry leading product and is setting the industry benchmark through its systematic approach to implementing in-line rules to support proactive prevention of fraud. The product also goes a step further in minimizing costs as well as anxiety of customers, as well as protecting operators from fraudulent access.

“We are pleased to have been chosen by MTN to deploy our industry-defining ROC Fraud Management and ROC Revenue Assurance solutions,” said Sudeesh Yezhuvath, Chief Operating Offer, Subex Ltd. He added, “We won the contract because of our thought leadership and our unique ability to address the total revenue chain through the bouquet of our ROC offerings. We are seeing more of our customers opting for multiple Subex ROC solutions, which is a testament to the depth and quality of our ROC portfolio.”

BANGALORE, INDIASubex Ltd, a leading global provider of Business Support Systems (B/OSS) for Communications Service Providers, announced today that it has recorded Net Income from Operations at Rs. 819.75 mln (USD $ 15.12 mln) for the first quarter of FY13. Net loss (before exceptional items and taxes) stood at Rs. 39.40 mln (USD $ 0.73 mln) as compared to profit of Rs. 148.30 mln (USD $ 2.74 mln) in FY12 Q1.

The Net Consolidated Income from Product and Product related Operations for the company stood at Rs. 708.64 mln (USD $ 13.07 mln) contributing to 86.45% of the consolidated revenue. The company posted a Product EBITDA of Rs.57.84 mln (USD $ 1.07 mln) while the Consolidated EBITDA for the period stood at Rs. 54.02 mln (USD $ 1.00 mln) compared to Rs. 272.36 mln (USD $ 5.02 mln) in Q1 of FY 2012.

Commenting on the business, Subash Menon, Founder, Managing Director and CEO, said, “While the business climate is definitely quite tough with strong head winds in Europe and the telecom industry experiencing bad times, we are confident of maintaining our leadership position in the Business Optimisation space. Our current quarter results have been impacted by the change in revenue recognition and this will get evened out during the year. This change was essential to be in line with the changes in our revenue model.”

In the recent past, leading analyst firm Gartner ranked Subex as the market leader in the Revenue Assurance and Fraud Management for the second year in succession while Analysys Mason declared Subex the market leader in Business Optimisation for an unprecedented fifth year in succession.

BANGALORE, INDIASubex Ltd, a leading global provider of Business Support Systems (B/OSS) for Communications Service Providers (CSPs), announced that the company’s industry-leading ROC Fraud Management solution has created a huge, positive impact on a Tier 1 APAC service provider’s operations.

Subex had recently launched inline controls in its ROC Fraud Management v7.4 for preventing subscription fraud, transaction fraud and handset loss. This version, implemented at a Tier 1 APAC operator to prevent Point of Sale (POS) fraud, has yielded outstanding results. The solution’s inline capability enabled the operator to save $2million in the very first month. It also benefited the operator with its exceptional fraud hit ratio of 62% (avg) in a month.

Because of the inline control framework in the ROC Fraud Management solution, POS staff will no longer need to wait until the fraudster is provisioned and later detected through behavioural rules and profiling. The POS staff can make real-time decisions and accept, decline or refer any subscriber to prevent fraudsters from entering the network. This also prevents the fraudsters from walking away with valuable devices.

“According to Communications Fraud Control Association (CFCA) Fraud Survey Report of 2011, global Point of Sale fraud stands at almost $5.5 billion. That is a huge threat to the industry and emphasizes the vital need for service providers to deploy a solution to prevent the fraud at the Point of Sale itself,” said Vinod Kumar, President at Subex. “We are extremely pleased with the benefits our industry leading ROC Fraud Management solution provides and the recent success at the Tier 1 APAC operator is a true testimony of the huge potential and value the solution delivers”.

With increasing involvement of telecom operators in money transactions (e.g. mobile money services); it is imperative for operators to have strict policy controls to not only detect, but prevent fraudulent transactions. The inline controls not only prevent POS fraud but also helps operators validate any transaction request in real time and prevent fraudulent transactions from being processed.
