IoT security is not properly equipped to handle advanced threats. Traditional IT security does not work with IoT devices, because their processors are often too small for firewalls, they can use multiple communication channels and connectivity types and can have easily accessible online interfaces that are a goldmine for malicious actors. Because of the rapid proliferation of IoT devices in consumer and enterprise spheres, there have been a number of regulations put into place to improve the security of these devices. Focusing on network communications by employing a probe on their network infrastructure, Subex uses a combination of signatures and machine learning heuristic techniques to learn what traffic is normal for your device and network, and warns users about anomalies that might represent an attempted breach. When working in hostile or extremely remote environments, such as industrial plants, power grids or international roaming applications, “it is also useful to have a layer of security above the device level, so that threats can be detected early enough even if there is no easy access to the device,” says P Vinod Kumar the CEO of Subex Security.
